About me

Hello, my name is Debbie (Debs) and I am a qualified and insured Person-centred counsellor.

I have always been drawn towards helping people and in my past career, I worked in the care sector for 28 years, supporting children and adults with complex needs and mental health relating issues. As a result of this, I decided to go back to university and I gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Person-centred counselling.

As a person-centred counsellor, I fully accept my clients for who they are. I highly believe in showing understanding and being open and honest with a non-judgemental approach - whilst being fully integrated into the relationship with my client. I do not direct my clients and tell them what to do, but instead, I prefer to explore options together and encourage them to share whatever they feel comfortable with at their own pace.

Over the past 2 years, I have been working from home, like so many others, which has been difficult for us all. The most important aspect for me during the pandemic, has been to reach out to the many individuals whose mental health and wellbeing has been impacted during this time. I began to reflect on how fortunate I am to live on a farm, how beneficial the open space has been and how those who could not access the countryside during lockdown must feel. As a result of this, I am now offering walking and talking therapy around my farm. The therapy aims to support clients to participate in experiencing a connection to the animals; to be closer to nature; to be surrounded by an open space and having this unique experience in a relaxing, peaceful and quiet setting. I strongly believe being outdoors is therapy by itself and does play a big part towards our mental health and wellbeing. If you choose this as an alternative therapy, and you are interested in learning more about the Ecotherapy I offer, please do get in touch with me.
